Our 2023 In Review

In 2023, the Camp Sunshine Community shared many wonderful moments of connection, inclusion, and FUN! A few highlights:

  • A meetup at Kenzie’s Be Cafe in Grand Haven

  • Our Sunshine at Diamond Springs Golf outing

  • FOUR incredible sessions of overnight camp at Camp Henry and Camp Blodgett

  • Run for the Sun 5k in Holland

  • A meetup at the Whitecaps game in September

  • TWO Harvesting Sunshine day programs at Camp Henry

  • 40th Anniversary Celebration at Hager Park

We also celebrated our 40th anniversary, an incredible milestone that culminated in a joyful celebration on Saturday, November 11! During our anniversary year, we took a look backward at our history and origins, but we’ve also been looking forward with expectation and joy!

As the next 40 years (and beyond!!) unfold for Camp Sunshine, we look forward to expanding our mission with more programming, more experiences, and more growth opportunities for both our campers and our volunteers. With a strengthened focus on disability advocacy, Camp Sunshine’s staff, board, and volunteers are coming together with our campers on a journey towards greater understanding and growth.

This is why we’ve spent the last year sharing content like the Four Mindsets, inviting our community to share their own experiences with disability, and lifting the voices of our participants with opportunities like our Camper Advisory Council. You’ll see more of this focus in 2024, as we lean into our vision statement: “To make the world outside of Camp Sunshine a more affirming and inclusive place by inspiring agents of change with transforming experiences and relationships.”

To our Sunshine community, thank you for standing with us! As we approach a new year, we’re filled with excitement about the opportunities ahead, and we can’t wait to share the Camp Sunshine experience with you!
